Good morning. In less than a week, students on this email will join others from around the school and you will be participating in the largest academic challenge in the history of the Trojans. Trojans, that word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can’t be consumed by our petty school loyalties any more. We will be united in our common egotistical belief that we are smarter. Perhaps it’s fate that today is Groundhog Day, and you will be stuck in this competition for the rest of your life. Not in athletic ability, occupational performance, or financial success, but useless fact recall. We’re competing for our right to brag, to talk shit. And should we win the day, the 7th of February will no longer be known as a random day on the calendar, but as the day we declared to the Gould School of Law in one voice, “We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on, We’re going to survive!” Today, we celebrate LAAB TRIVIA NIGHT!!!!!!!!

No, we didn’t get hacked. We’re letting everybody know that we’re going to be auctioning off a timeshare at the PILF Auction on January 26th. Get a group together and bid! Here’s the description:

7 day/6 night stay in one of over 100 resort destinations worldwide, including resorts in Alcapulco or Mazatlan, Mexico; Argentina; Miami, Florida; Las Vegas; New Orleans; Israel; Malta; Venzuela; New Zealand; the Canary Islands and Spanish Coast; and Tunisia, to name a few.

Most resorts include 1, 2, or 3 bedroom suites that are perfect for group trips or a private getaway. All booking subject to availability, 60 day notice required in most cases. Voucher expires January 2014 (2 years).

Estimated Value: $1750 – $3100 depending on the resort selected.

The Winter Trip has come and gone, but now’s your chance to spread the word! If you went on the trip, PLEASE tell us what you got out of it. YOU can be the next honey badger! Also, we want pictures/videos you took down there. Please email those to Evan.Goldsmith@gmail.com. Pictures may be added to the website, and the pictures/video will be compiled into a presentation on exactly what we did in San Diego. Pictures from our nights out are acceptable, but use your judgment and ensure that they’re SFW.

LAAB will be having our Winter Break trip this year in San Diego working with the Sierra Club. The trip will be from Thursday, January 5th to Sunday, January 8th. We will be having an information session, Thursday, November 10th at Lunch in Room 1. Lunch will be provided.

We have a number of different public service opportunities available to us from the Sierra Club, both legal and non-legal. Potential projects include working on memos related to conservation issues, corresponding with government agencies, or leading day-hikes with young folks. We are also planning fun evening activities! If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions you can bring them up at the information session or send them to laab.project@gmail.com.

Just in case you’ve been living under a rock, I wanted to remind everyone about LAAB Poker Night! It’s Wednesday the 12th in the Law School Cafe and the doors open at 6:30. Tourney starts at 7:00. Be sure to stop by our table during lunch next week to buy your tickets!

It’s a new year, so we’ve got a new Facebook group.  Click here to join.

Also we’ve integrated our website with the Facebook group.  If you join the group, you’ll get all of the updates from the website automatically.

Due to an overwhelming flood of spam from bots, I’ve been forced to set up a CAPTCHA requirement for comments and for joining out mailing list.  We don’t want to make anything more difficult for LAABers, but our hatred for robots compels us to nevertheless make these changes.

Legal Aid Alternative Break Intro PPT

LAAB has two events coming up on Thursday, September 8.

First up, we’ve got our informational meeting during lunch in Room 7. Be sure to come by to learn more about who we are and what we do, and stay for the free food while you’re at it.

Also, from 5:00-10:00 that night, LAAB will be hosting a Bar Review pregame at Traditions. They’ll be showing the Saints/Packers game, and we’ve arranged for some pretty sweet drink specials.
